FOUR ILLINOIS PGA PROFESSIONALS TO COMPETE THIS WEEK AT ASSISTANT PGA PROFESSIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP AT PGA GOLF CLUB

GLENVIEW, Ill. – Four Assistant PGA Professionals will represent the Illinois PGA Section at the 2018 National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship this week Nov. 15-18 at PGA Golf Club’s Wannamaker Course in Port St. Lucie, Fla. The championship is open to both PGA Member golf professionals serving in the assistant classification at any golf facility as well as PGA Associate professionals who serve in an approved role within the golf industry while simultaneously enrolled in programming to pursue their PGA membership.
 
The Illinois Section players qualified in July at the Illinois PGA Assistant Championship at Westmoreland Country Club in Wilmette, Ill.
 
“We have a competitive group of assistants and associates in the Illinois Section who participate regularly in our tournaments throughout the season, and we wish them all the best on the course this week,” said Carrie Williams, Executive Director of the Illinois PGA Section.

Following is the Illinois PGA/Assistant PGA Professional Championship roster and season highlights:

Kyle English, 27, Associate, Head PGA Professional at Crestwicke Country Club, Bloomington, Ill.
  • Illinois PGA Assistant Championship at Westmoreland CC – 1st
  • Central Illinois PGA Chapter Championship – 1st
  • IPGA Players Championship at Eagle Ridge Resort and Spa – T3
  • Stroke Play #2 at Oak Park CC – T2
 Chris French, 32, Associate, Assistant PGA Professional at Aldeen Golf Club, Rockford, Ill.
  • Illinois PGA Assistant Championship at Westmoreland CC – T2
  • Stroke Play #1 at Stonebridge CC – 1st
  • Assistant Stroke Play #4 at Naperville CC – T3 
Jeff Kellen, 30, Associate, Assistant PGA Professional at Mauh-Nah-Tee-See Club, Rockford, Ill.
  • Illinois PGA/Don Drasler Assistant Player of the Year – 2018
  • Illinois PGA Assistant Championship at Westmoreland CC – 4th
  • IPGA Players Championship at Eagle Ridge Resort and Spa – 1st
  • Stroke Play #6 at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club, Dubsdread – 1st
 Andy Mickelson, 37, Associate, Director of Golf at Mistwood Golf Club, Romeoville, Ill.
  • Illinois PGA Assistant Championship at Westmoreland CC – T2
  • Illinois PGA/Don Drasler Player of the Year points standings – 2nd
  • Stroke Play #1 at Merit Club – 1st
  • Stroke Play #3 at Onwentsia Club – 1st
 
For English, French and Kellen, this will be their first appearance in the Assistant PGA Professional Championship while Mickelson has competed in the event twice before winning the championship in 2015 and finishing T2 in 2016.
