Eleven Illinois PGA Professionals to Compete at PGA Professional Championship

The 55th PGA Professional Championship Takes Place April 17-20 at Omni Barton Creek

GLENVIEW, Ill. – April 15, 2022 – The PGA Professional Championship will be played at Omni Barton Creek Resort and Spa in Austin, Texas next week starting Sunday, April 17 and concluding Wednesday, April 20. Eleven Illinois PGA Professionals will represent the Section at the 55th PGA Professional Championship next week.

Illinois PGA Professionals qualified for this event last August at the Illinois PGA Professional Championship at Ivanhoe Club. The Illinois PGA Section was granted 10 qualifying spots based on historical entries into this event. Other players were granted spots into the PGA Professional Championship through the National exempt list or alternate list.

“We are excited to once again play witness to the PGA Professional Championship,” said Carrie Williams, Executive Director of the Illinois PGA Section. “We have a strong group of professionals representing the Illinois PGA Section this year, and we wish them the best of luck.”

Below is the Illinois PGA/PGA Professional Championship roster and their previous season’s highlights:
Reece Bartelt – PGA Director of Instruction at S.M.A.R.T Golf & Fitness, Lombard, Ill.

  • Illinois PGA Professional Championship at Ivanhoe Club – T11
  • Illinois PGA Stroke Play at Oak Park Country Club – T1
  • Illinois PGA Players Championship at Knollwood Club – T11
  • Making his first career appearance at the PGA Professional Championship.
  • Finished 10th in the 2021 Illinois PGA Bernardi Player of the Year points race.

Brian Carroll – General Manager and Head PGA Professional at The Hawk Country Club, St. Charles, Ill.

  • Illinois PGA Players Championship at Knollwood Club – 2nd

  • Finished fifth (5th) in the 2021 Illinois PGA Bernardi Player of the Year points race.

  • Has qualified for 10 PGA Championships.
  • Two-time low PGA Professional at the PGA Championship (2007, 2011).

Tim Streng – PGA Teaching Professional, Wildcat Golf Academy, Lake Forest, Ill.

  • Illinois PGA Professional Championship at Ivanhoe Club – T8

  • Illinois PGA Players Championship at Knollwood Club – T6
  • Making his first career appearance at the PGA Professional Championship.

The PGA Professional Championship field is comprised of players who advanced from the 41 Section Championships, along with Past Champions. The low 20 finishers earn a berth in the 2022 PGA Championship at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma on May 19-22.

Established in 1968, the PGA Professional Championship roster of Champions includes the following premier TOUR professionals: Sam Snead, Bob Rosburg, Don Massengale, Ed Dougherty, Larry Gilbert, and Bruce Fleisher.
