Biancalana Wins 2020 Illinois Super Senior Open

MUNDELEIN, Ill. – September 2, 2020 – Roy Biancalana won the 2020 Illinois Super Senior Open at Pine Meadow Golf Club by three strokes on Wednesday, September 2. Biancalana climbed two spots from third place to win his first career Illinois Super Senior Open.

Biancalana entered the final round of the Illinois Super Senior Open in third place following a first round 4-under-par 68. The first round featured six birdies for Biancalana, including four on the back nine. He also carded a bogey-free back nine in the first round.

Biancalana’s bogey-free streak continued on the front nine of the final round. He added birdies at holes one, two and nine to make the turn at 3-under-par for the day and 7-under-par for the tournament. Biancalana climbed to the top of the leaderboard and held a two-stroke lead heading into the final nine holes of the Championship. He added two more birdies on the back nine on holes 13 and 15 to get to 9-under-par for the tournament. Biancalana’s only bogey of the day came on the 18th hole to finish the day at 5-under 68 and 8-under-par 136 for the
Championship.     

“Today was much more difficult,” said Biancalana. “I didn’t make a bogey today until the last hole, so I was proud of that. The greens were perfect this week and the course played a little difficult with the wind. Overall, I’m happy with the win.”

Mike Harrigan (Chicago, Ill.) finished T2 with a tournament total 5-under-par 139. Harrigan carded a 5-under-par 67 in the first round of the Illinois Super Senior Open. Round one featured six birdies and one bogey for Harrigan. He battled in the second-round offsetting bogeys at the first hole and third hole with birdies on two and four. Harrigan parred the remaining five holes on the front to remain in second place heading to the back nine. He carded one birdie and a bogey on the back nine to finish the round at even-par for the day.

Ted Pecora (Glencoe, Ill.) also finished T2 and was the low amateur for 2020. Pecora carded a 1-over-par 73 in round one and started the final round seven strokes back of the lead. A bogey-free second round with six birdies propelled Pecora up the leaderboard and he finished with the low round of the day with a 6-under-par 66 and a tournament total 5-under-par 139.

James Buenzli (Prairie Grove, Ill.) and defending Champion Jim Sobb (Barrington, Ill.) finished T4 with tournament totals of 4-under-par 140.
