2023 Illinois PGA Don Drasler Assistant Player of the Year Results

GOLF, Ill. – November 9, 2023 – Kevin Flack (Mauh-Nah-Tee-See Country Club) has won the 2023 Illinois PGA Don Drasler Assistant Player of the Year. Flack has now won this award two out of the last three years (2023, 2021).

“It is an honor to win the Don Drasler Assistant Player of the Year award for the second time in my career,” said Flack. “We have a very competitive group of Assistants and Associates, and I am proud that my play throughout the year was good enough to win the award again. I couldn’t have done it without the support of my club, the members at The Mauh-Nah-Tee-See Club, and our Head Golf Professional, Ed Slattery.”

Don Drasler Assistant Player of the Year points are earned against other eligible players competing in the Assistant Division at Illinois PGA Stroke Play events, the Illinois PGA Assistant Championship, the Assistant Match Play, and the Illinois Open Championship. Players earn points based on their finish against the entire field. Points are also weighted based on the strength and size of the field.

“We have a very competitive group of Assistants and Associates in the Illinois Section,” said Carrie Williams, Executive Director of the Illinois PGA Section. “Kevin showcased some fantastic golf throughout the season and played well at the Assistants events and in the Main Division. We congratulate him on his outstanding season and on winning this award.”

In total, Flack played in nine Assistant Division/Assistant only events. He finished inside the top 10 at each of these events, including two victories.

His victories came at the Illinois PGA Stroke Play #2 at Schaumburg Golf Club, and the Illinois PGA Stroke Play #4 at Cress Creek Country Club. At both of these events, Flack also won the Main Division. In addition to his victories, Flack also finished sixth at the National Car Rental Illinois Assistant PGA Professional Championship at Briarwood Country Club.

Flack earned a majority of his points at tournaments where he also earned Main Division points. In addition to his two Stroke Play victories, Flack finished fourth at the Illinois PGA Players Championship at Twin Orchard Golf Club, T26 at the Illinois Open Championship, and was eliminated in the Semi-Finals of the Harris Golf Cars Illinois PGA Match Play Championship by the 2023 Illinois PGA Bernardi Player of the Year, Andy Mickelson (Assistant Player of the Year points are not awarded at this event). He also finished T12 at the Nadler Golf Cars Illinois PGA Professional Championship (Assistant Player of the Year points are not awarded at this event), giving him top 25 finishes at each of the Illinois PGA Majors. Flack finished the 2023 season in second place on the Illinois PGA Bernardi Player of the Year points list.

“The highlight of my season was finishing T3 in the Match Play at Bull Valley after losing to Andy Mickelson in the Semi-finals in heartbreaking fashion on the 18th hole,” said Flack. “I then went on to win two Stroke Play events after that loss. Thank you to the Illinois PGA for all their hard work putting together a great season of events for all of us golf professionals!”

The Illinois PGA Assistant Player of the Year Award is named after Don Drasler. Drasler was a PGA Professional from 1965-2007 and served as the Assistant Professional at Old Elm Club for over 33 years. He was the consummate golf professional and a fixture at the Old Elm Club in Highland Park, Illinois. Don loved the game of golf and made it not only his life’s work but also his passion.
