Students follow a summer-long work rotation designed to provide an understanding of what goes into managing various elements of the golf industry; including golf professional duties, outside operations, clubhouse operations, and golf course maintenance.
Started in 2010, the Illinois PGA Foundation’s GolfWorks Illinois is a vocational development program for Illinois high school and college students, approximately age 16-21, that promotes learning through hands-on work experience in the golf industry. Through GolfWorks Illinois, the Foundation brings together PGA Professionals and industry leaders to mentor the next generation and provide an opportunity to learn the business side of the golf industry.
Working together with local golf facilities and youth golf organizations, GolfWorks Illinois benefits participants through experiential learning. In addition, the program has a charitable purpose and service-learning aspect that highlights the role of PGA Professionals serving as the “experts in the business and game of golf."
