2026 Illinois Super Senior Open Leaderboard
MUNDELEIN, Ill. – August 19, 2026 – Gary Hallberg (North Barrington, Ill.) claimed the 2026 Illinois Super Senior Open on Wednesday at Pine Meadow Golf Club, finishing the 36-hole championship at 4-under-par 140.
The victory marked Hallberg’s first Illinois PGA Major championship since winning the Illinois Open in 1982. Hallberg also captured the Illinois Open in 1977, giving him three Illinois PGA Major victories spanning nearly five decades.
“To win means a lot,” said Hallberg. “ There were a lot of really good players here and a lot of great guys I hadn’t seen in many years. To come back and play with them, say hello and see them again was really a highlight for me, especially coming back to Illinois. It feels great. In golf, you’re always battling, and you very seldom feel like you’ve done everything exactly the way you wanted. I feel really good that I was able to come out on top against a lot of good players. I feel very fortunate.”
Hallberg entered Wednesday’s final round tied for the lead after opening the championship with a 2-under-par 70 on Tuesday. His opening round featured four birdies, including two on his final nine holes, as he posted a 2-under-par 34 coming in to put himself in position entering the final round.
Hallberg remained steady early Wednesday. He birdied the par-5 second and par-5 fourth holes before giving shots back with bogeys at Nos. 3 and 6. A birdie at the par-4 seventh sent him to the back nine in 1-under-par 35 for the day.
He began to separate himself on the back nine. Hallberg birdied the par-4 11th and par-5 13th before running into his biggest setback of the day with a double bogey at the par-4 14th. He responded immediately, making birdie at the par-5 15th to regain momentum. Hallberg closed his championship with three consecutive pars to card his second straight 2-under-par 70 and finish at 4-under-par for the week.
Hallberg finished six shots clear of David Hannon (La Grange Park), Larry Silvestri (a) (Lincolnshire, Ill.) and Ted Pecora (a) (Winnetka, Ill.), who tied for second at 2-over-par 146. Silvestri and Pecora shared low-amateur honors.
In addition to the Overall Championship, competitors were recognized across five age divisions.
60-64 Division: David Hannon (La Grange Park) and Jeff Ott (a) (Dunlap, Ill.) shared the division title.
65-69 Division: Overall champion Gary Hallberg (North Barrington, Ill.) also captured the 65-69 Division.
70-74 Division: Ted Pecora (a) (Winnetka, Ill.) earned the division title.
75 and Above – Back Tee Division: Dale Tallon (a) (Chicago, Ill.) claimed the division title.
75 and Above – Forward Tee Division: Neil Kopinski earned the division title.
The Illinois PGA Section now turns its attention to the Nadler Golf Illinois PGA Professional Championship, which takes place next Monday and Tuesday at Elgin Country Club.
