History

The PGA of America originated in New York when a group of men representing golf professionals and prominent amateurs met at a luncheon on January 17, 1916. These gentlemen discussed forming a national organization which would promote interest in the game of golf and help elevate the vocation of golf professionals. Eighty-two charter members were elected. Today, there are over 28,000 PGA professionals and apprentices – making the PGA the world’s largest working sports organization.

Much of what we love about our work is that we get to connect with people from all backgrounds. We are deeply committed to bringing greater inclusion to the sport, to the golf industry’s workforce, and to the supply chain so more people can discover the joy of playing golf.

We believe golf teaches valuable lessons, not just about the fundamentals of golf but also about life.

Golf brings people together. It lends perspective. It gets you outdoors and helps you reconnect with the beauty of nature.

There are so many ways in which a journey in golf can positively impact your life. Here at the PGA of America, we stand ready to help you discover how it can enrich yours.
